Arkansas Heritage Month Festival

The Rector SpringFest, a tradition in downtown Rector for several years, is returning in 2008, and will coincide with the Department of Arkansas Heritage's statewide celebration of Arkansas Heritage Month, to promote historical preservation and awareness.  The theme this year is Arkansas's Political Heritage:  The People Rule.  There will be music, games for the children, political stump speeches, exhibits, and a farmers' market.  The admission is free, and there will be a nominal vendor's charge for selling produce and/or wares.

Community development director Cyndi Corkran is working on the planning for the festival, which will be held at the Downtown Central Park on Saturday, May 3rd, 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M.

Details currently are being formulated on the festival. If you would like to volunteer to help make this festival a success, you may contact Cyndi Corkran at 870-595-3035, or by emailing to: 'Click here'

The Harper Building
Harper BuildingThe City of Rector recently purchased the historic Harper building at 117 Front Street, which is one of her oldest buildings.  It became the U.S. Post Office around the turn of the century and served as such until 1958, when the postal service moved to Main Street into the old Gabler Building.  After restoration of the Harper building, which is located directly behind City Hall, the Rector Water Office will move in and call it home, giving much needed space to the Rector Police Department, in what is now the current water office.  This building's façade is one of several in town which is adorned with the beautiful Mesker Brothers Iron Work of St. Louis, Missouri, with crown cornicing and decorative plates.  The windows have been temporarily covered with plywood for security reasons as the clean up begins.
