There will be a team from the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program out of Little Rock, arriving in Rector on March 25th to assess our downtown district, for the possibility of being designated as a National Register Historic District. "Designation of commercial historic districts will help efforts to preserve downtown areas by making property owners eligible for federal tax credits if they rehabilitate their structures for income-producing purposes. Other benefits of historic disignation include: * The prestige of having a National Register historic district * Heritage tourism * Grant possibilities for buildings owned by local government or non-profit organizations * Increased property values."
