Following the Veterans Day program at Rector High School Gymnasium, a group of citizens met at Rector Downtown Park to honor veterans, while also, making donations toward the Veterans Memorial Monument, designed to be erected in the park. Two white flags designated the spot where the monument will come to rest, honoring all whom have served, living or deceased, representing all five branches of the United States Military. Memorial Bricks were also purchased to honor or memorialize a loved one, and will be added to the Memorial Walkway, which will eventually lead to the monument. Refreshments were served and stories were recounted of by-gone days Anyone wishing to purchas a Memorial Brick my do so by calling Rector City Hall at 595-3035. |

The day was warm the sky was burning blue, and the mums were so colorful and full that everyone who worked that day selling them, through the efforts of the Rector Lions Club, kept saying, "Oh, these are just beautiful!" The sale was to begin at 2:00 pm, but by 1:00 when the plants were being set out at the Rector Memorial Park, passing motorists and a few folks on foot stopped, ooed, aahed and bought a mum or two for their own. The Rector Community Development Office also purchased over 300 mums for the concrete planters up and down Main Street, and the Rector Garden Club set them in, while also, contributed to the purchase. It has been decided among Lion Club members that this will more than likely become an annual event. All of the proceeds which the club raises go for many wonderful projects, such as vision programs for the needy and children's summer programs. |
